Greece literature is all about the beliefs and culture of greece. It includes stories, myths, gods and goddesses and the olympics. Literature is important because it explains what happened in Greece or at least what was thought in Greece. Greece is an interesting culture because they have 12 gods. It is certainly very interesting, because they have one god for something in peculiar. The difference is that in some other cultures there is only one god. Furthermore I think it is very different that in ancient Greek Olympics, the olympian players played nude, things have evolved and the Olympics today have many differences.
First of all, we all know that the greeks have a lot of gods but I think you don't know all of them. There are quite a lot of gods but the most important ones are : Zeus, Hera, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Eros, Ares, Poseidon, Athena, Hermes, Artemis, Apollo, Hades, Demeter, Hestia and Dionysus.
It all begins with Chaos, a yawning nothingness. Out of the void emerged Gaia (the Earth) and some other primary divine beings: Eros (Love), the Abyss (the Tartarus(dungeon)), and the Erebus. Without male assistance, Gaia gave birth to Uranus (the Sky). From that union were born first the Titans—six males: Coeus,Crius, Cronus, Hyperinion, Iapetus, and Oceanus; and six females: Mnemosyne, Phobe, Rhea, Theia, Themis, and Tethys. After Cronus was born, Gaia and Uranus decreed no more Titans were to be born. They were followed by the one-eyed Cyclopes and the Hecatonchires or Hundred-Handed Ones, who were both thrown into Tartarus by Uranus. This made Gaia furious. Cronus ( the youngest and most terrible of gaia's children]), was convinced by Gaia to castrate his father. He did this, and became the ruler of the Titans with his sister-wife Rhea as his consort, and the other Titans became his court.
A motif of father-against-son conflict was repeated when Cronus was confronted by his son, Zeus. Because Cronus had betrayed his father, he feared that his offspring would do the same, and so each time Rhea gave birth, he snatched up the child and ate it. Rhea hated this and tricked him by hiding Zeus and wrapping a stone in a baby's blanket, which Cronus ate. When Zeus was full grown, he fed Cronus a drugged drink which caused him to vomit, throwing up Rhea's other children and the stone, which had been sitting in Cronus's stomach all along. Zeus then challenged Cronus to war for the kingship of the gods. At last, with the help of the Cyclopes
(whom Zeus freed from Tartarus), Zeus and his siblings were victorious, while Cronus and the Titans were hurled down to imprisonment in Tartarus. The Greek mythology is based on how earth was created.
First day: The olympiad begins, everyone goes to the games and there is a celebration.
Day two: Chariot races, horse races, Pentathlon: Discus throw, long jump, javelin throw, stade race and upright wrestling.
Day three: The sacrifice to Zeus: they killed 100 bulls, gave gold silver and bronze and gifts to zeus. It took place in the temple of zeus. Boys’ events. Age of 17 to 20 did all kinds of sports.
Day four: Foot races: long race, stage race and double stade race. Upright wrestling, boxing, pankration and race in armor.
Fifth day: Victory banquet and the end of the olympics.
The olympic games were very important because they were a symbol of tradition and honor towards the gods especially Zeus.
Homer and Aesop were two Greek men that took part in Literature. They are very famous because of their fables, and very long poems, which were epic poems. Homer wrote two great epic poems: The Odyssey and the Iliad. Both stories backdrop on the Trojan war.
Aesop's fables are still read now a days. He wrote many fables for example a very famous one: The tortoise and the hare. In the story, the hare and tortoise race, and the hare believes that since he is much faster than the tortoise, he can slow down and relax and take a nap and still win the race. However, he sleeps for too long and the tortoise eventually passes him, winning the race. The moral of the story is that slow and steady wins the race.
